CCD Parents and Mass Attendance

It has been a perennial problem in most of the parishes: Many parents do not register their children in the CCD program. Most of those who register their children in the program do not attend Mass. When pastors apply strict regulations they tend to lose CCD students.

What should I do?

I welcome ideas and suggestions from you in dealing with this problem.

    (1) Maybe CCD classes could be scheduled to end near the beginning of the Saturday vigil Mass so parents would be there to pick up their children -- and let the parents know that the CCD class is intentionally scheduled so both parents and children can attend Mass.
    (2) Have a class for parents (and their children) once a month (short 10-15 min) -- to start (as an example), provide a list of prayers that they can use to pray with their children - this would help the children learn their prayers and get the adults involved in the CCD program.
    (3) Have a CCD Mass once a month (on Saturday night) with a pizza party and movie after Mass. Maybe have a list of movies available from Netflix that would be suitable.
